A Note from the UMPIRE COORDINATOR

The umpire schedule for next week is posted. Please look at it and make sure you are there for your scheduled time. If you cannot make it for any reason, please make arrangements with someone else to cover your game or trade for a different time slot. Please let me know of any changes.

Also, please let your representative know that they MUST sign in at the back of the concession stand for your team to get credit. I may not always be there to make sure who's actually on the field and if you don’t sign in your team may not get the credit needed  for that week.

There are no make up games. If you miss your time slot to umpire, you will get a written warning. If it happens again, you will be forfeiting your first scheduled game the following week. Please make every effort to make your time slot.

On another note, please remember that we are all volunteers and everyone should treat the umpires with respect. Constantly badgering the umpires about their calls causes delays in the games. We have several umpires that are learning and some that have been around for awhile, both have good days and bad days with the calls. Sometimes the calls are in your favor and sometimes they are not. No one at the field has ever called a perfect game and remember, that people will complain about your calls too; so don’t treat the umpires badly because you don’t like their calls.

Calling them out after a game, telling them they did poorly is not acceptable from anyone, especially a coach. The coach is the example for the team and being disrespectful to an umpire in front of the players does not promote a positive team spirit for future games. It is also not consistent with how a Little Miss Kickball representative, coach, player and parent should behave. See rule 11.02 D. “Team coaches shall recognize their position as being a role model for the players, showing that they respect the judgment and the authority of the umpires and adult leaders of the league.”

Everyone should be thanking the umpires for their time and effort. Southside cannot run without umpires. I appreciate everyone’s support in the umpiring.

If you have a parent or team representative umpiring for you.  Your representative must be a LMK Certified Umpire. If you have not given me names and availability for umpires, please do so as soon as possible. We encourage everyone to come and observe. You will find viewing the games in action an important step to your continued improvement as an umpire.

Coaches, please inform your assistants and parents of the schedule. If an email address was provided, the schedule will be emailed to you as well. If you would like to be added to the email list, please send an email to webmaster@sslmk.com with "SUBSCRIBE" in the subject line. If anyone has any questions, please contact: Adrienne Cavazos, Umpire Coordinator (361) 853-8023 umpcoordinator@sslmk.com
